Website or Blog Hosting? ?
NOLA Proud asked:
I am considering starting a website for my business, but would also like to use the site as a blog. Being realistic, I think I would average a new blog article a week, max. I would also like to put certain “permanent” articles on the website, which I would rather not rollover as blog entries might. Considering search engine optimization as well as the technical issues, would website or blog hosting be appropriate?

Get your own web space. You can get it for as little as $6 per month, including the domain name. I got my domain and web space from ICDSoft.com. Once you get your own web space, install a CMS like Drupal or Mambo. These both are better suited to business needs than a blog software like WordPress or Movable Type.

I recommend Dreamhost
1. You get a free domain from them (actually 2 if you use the promo code, more about that later)
2. They now offer unlimited disk space and bandwidth + 50 GB of backup space
3. You can host unlimited number of domains (sites) on a single account
4. They have a great custom control panel with OneClick installs of all the popular software like WordPress, Joomla, Forums, Galleries…
5. Their standard price is $119.40/year ($9.95/month if you pay yearly) but you can use the Promo Code: PLUS (at sign up page) and get a $50 discount + 2 Free Domain Names
6. This way you get them for $69.40/year ($5.78/month)
For SEO I recommend you to install wordpress with some SEO plugins, so you can have the best from both, a great blog engine and SEO optimized static links. Dreamhost offers you two ways to install WordPress, either totally manually, or through OneClick install.

I would suggest using their newest promotion you can get hosting (http://www.GotHosting.org/special_deal.php) for $29.99 per year (that’s < $2.50 per month).
Once you get the hosting you’ll be able to login to your cpanel and use sitebuilder (to build your professional website) or you can go to fantastico and instantly install your own wordpress blog, drupal, or any of several other types with just a couple of clicks.
The other option would be to use a discount site for hostgator as they provide pretty solid hosting as well.
Hope that helps.

Per personal experience I would use neither a blog nor a website.
Rather I would use both at the same time.
My blog just hit a PR3 after being at a PR0 for months. Why was it at a PR0? Simple, because I had used it long ago for a different project. As I started posting on the blog after it was silent for so long it sent a red flag up at Google. Finally, I’m beyond the zero rating I was getting and now my blog is reflecting correctly.
So I would open a Blogger blog and then post either the same or a similar article on your website like I do on. Once that is done I recommend linking both your blog and your website together. As one grow it will cause the other to increase in popularity as well.
But I wouldn’t stop there. Rather sending your written articles to aticle search directories for promotion is highly recommended.
Here’s an article that talks about that…
